San Angelo Community Information

Known to some as an oasis at the edge of the Chihuahua desert, San Angelo is such an unassuming little town, you’d never guess how much there is to see and do here. With its numerous parks, playgrounds and athletic fields, San Angelo has a small town feel with a lot more to offer than meets the eye. For example, what small town do you know has its own symphony orchestra? San Angelo also has a performing arts theater and a gorgeous new fine arts museum.

Downtown features an eclectic mix of shops and services, including antique stores and an old fashioned saloon. For additional shopping, the Sunset Mall’s 85 shops and other shopping centers, including quite a spread at the 2400 block of South College Boulevard, provide for even the most avid shopper. Quite an array of restaurants is available here too, from fast food to fine dining. San Angelo has Japanese, Italian, seafood and family diners in addition to the dependably good steakhouses and authentic Mexican food. There is no lack of nightlife here either, with country western, rock, jazz and blues clubs to choose from any night of the week!

Of course for outdoors enthusiasts, San Angelo is heaven on earth! Boating, fishing, water skiing, hunting, hiking and camping are all popular pastimes in this diverse town. Visitors and locals alike also enjoy touring the historic Fort Concho, Angelo State University Planetarium and seasonal fairs and festivals such as the Cactus Jazz and Blues Festival in September and a 4th of July celebration with fireworks to rival the biggest in Texas!

For the sports enthusiast, San Angelo also has its own professional indoor football team, the San Angelo Stampede Express. As charter members of the Intense Football League, one can usually catch a Stampede Express game at their home stadium, the San Angelo Coliseum. Minor baseball league fans can even catch a San Angelo Colts game at Foster Field.
